Royce A. Topp
Royce A. Topp, age 80, of Carrington, ND, died Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND, with family members by his side. Royce Allen Topp was born July 4, 1935, to Reuben and Lily (Hart) Topp. He attended Cherry Lake Rural School, and graduated from Grace City Public School in 1952. He then completed an eight week Agriculture Short Course at NDSU in Fargo in 1953. Royce farmed near Grace City, ND, all of his life until retiring in 2000. Royce married his high school sweetheart, Mary C. Meier, on October 9, 1955, and would have celebrated their 60 years of marriage this fall. They lived on the family farm until they moved to Carrington in 2005. He was a valued member of the community. Royce was involved as a Township officer, member of the Grace City School Board, Grace City United Methodist Church, where he had served as Treasurer, Council on Aging, Carrington Senior Citizen’s Board, Carrington Lion’s Club, Trinity Lutheran Church Council, and Community Credit Union Director. Royce also served as a member of the Dakota Central Telecommunications Board for many years. Royce enjoyed playing cards, watching the Minnesota Twins, and watching his grandkids’ and great-grandkids’ sports and activities. He was a wonderful and cherished husband, father, and grandfather with a great sense of humor. He is survived by his wife, Mary Topp, Carrington; daughters Candice (Reggie) Grinde, West Fargo, ND, Marsha (Larry) Scanson, Grace City, Jackie (Jerry) Rausch, Eden Prairie, MN, Brenda (Jim) Lepinski, Riverview, FL, Cara (Greg) Olson, Minot, ND, and Paula (John) Peterson, Portland, ND. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, sisters Ruby Melgard, Perham, MN, and Gloria Gilliss, New Rockford, ND, brother-in-law John (Dee) Meier, Apache Junction, AZ, and sister-in-law Ardyce Meier, Mesa, AZ.
Royce was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben and Lily Topp, sisters Donna (Francis) Resler, Marlyss Edland; brother Floyd Topp; brothers-in-law Fredrick Melgard, John Gilliss, Bill Meier, and sister-in-law Doris (Norbert) Hoffman. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial to the Grace City Cemetery Association.
