Myrtle Tufte
Myrtle Tufte, age 96, of Carrington, ND, died Thursday August 21, 2014, at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington.
Myrtle Evelyn Hoyt was born February 4, 1918, to Leo and Eva (Brown) Hoyt in Eddy County near McHenry, ND. She attended country school in the area.
She was baptized and confirmed in McHenry. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in McHenry and the McHenry Senior Citizens.
Myrtle was united in marriage to Oscar Tufte on December 27, 1944, in McHenry. They moved to the family farm in 1945. Following Oscar’s death in 1981, Myrtle continued to live on the farm until 2008, when she moved to Carrington. In 2010, She moved to Holy Family Villa and later to Golden Acres Manor, making many special friends in both places. Myrtle’s family, especially her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were very precious to her. She and her brother Elery started playing music when she was 16 and he was 12. Through the years they played for many dances and gatherings. Later on, they played in nursing homes and senior centers with their cousin Lyle Hoyt and Elery’s wife Delores. Myrtle played the guitar, harmonica and accordion, and sang.
The many interests in her very full life included writing and getting letters and cards. She loved animals, especially her kitties, and playing Bingo and cards, especially Garbage. She also enjoyed mowing, gardening, taking pictures, picnics, birthday parties, holidays with family, and dancing.
Myrtle is survived by her five children: Jerry (Cindy) Tufte of Glenfield, ND, Marlys (Bill) Bauer of Carrington, Elton (Mary) Tufte of Sioux Falls, SD, Sheryll Fike (fiancé Keith Anwiler) of Bowdon, ND, Bonnie (Duane) Harding Carrington; fourteen grandchildren: Melissa, Wade, Tyler, Trevor, David, Shaunette, Jessica, Jerod, Jennifer, Mindy, Amanda, David, Kris, and Kim; three step-grandchildren: Jay, Lynn, and Marty; twenty seven great-grandchildren eight step great-grandchildren; three step great-great-grandchildren; one brother; Walter (Delores) Hoyt of Pekin, ND, two sisters-in-law Delores Hoyt of McHenry and Mylerna Hoyt of Cooperstown.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Oscar; two brothers Elery and Harvey; two sons-in-laws Dwight Dunn and Jim Fike; one step grandchild Craig Bauer; and one great-granddaughter Mayna Tufte.
