Roger Unruh
Roger Unruh, age 92, died on Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at Sanford Health Clinic, Hillsboro, ND. Roger was born July 1, 1925, in Jamestown, ND, the only child of Henry and Lillian (Norden) Unruh. He grew up and attended school in rural Woodworth, ND, until the 8th grade when he stayed home on the family farm helping his father work the land. He stayed on the farm until he was drafted during the Korean War, which led him to serve in the U.S. Army. Roger was honorably discharged in 1952. Roger returned home after the war to continue farming, he was united in marriage on April 21, 1962, to Bernice (Hanson) Polries in Carrington. Roger and Bernice were blessed with two boys, Mark and Paul. He grew up with horses all of his life, they used them in the day to day farming operation until the use of equipment took over, but his love of horses continued until his last days. Roger had the privilege of farming with his boys until his “retirement” in 1986, at which time he continued to have a presence on a daily bases at the farm. Roger enjoyed deer hunting around the farm once all the work was completed. He was a proud member of the Carrington Fire Department, showing his pride he wore his fireman’s jacket regularly. In 1999, Roger moved to Fargo, ND, where he found himself working at Hector International Airport. It gave him many opportunities to visit with folks he knew that where passing through. Roger remained in Fargo until moving to Hillsboro in 2017, remaining there until his passing. He is survived by his two sons Mark Unruh, Fargo, ND, and Paul (Heather) Unruh, Hillsboro, ND, and many cousins. Roger was preceded in death by his wife Bernice in January 30, 1998, and his parents Henry (Lillian) Unruh.
