Roberta Williams

Roberta Williams, age 85, of New Rockford, ND, died Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford.

Roberta Myrtle Short was born December 6, 1929, at Juanita, ND, the daughter of Rutherford D. and Deana H. (Vining) Short. She grew up there, and graduated from Juanita High School in 1947. She started working as a nurse’s aide at the age of 15.  After high school Roberta moved to Fargo, ND, and attended Moorhead State Teacher’s College (MSUM). She later attended Lake Region College (LRSC) in Devils Lake, ND and received her LPN degree.   Roberta worked many years at New Rockford City Hospital and Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd.

Roberta was united in marriage on March 22, 1952, to James Williams at Buchanan, ND. They lived and farmed near Brantford, ND, until moving into New Rockford in the early 1990’s.  James Williams died July 26, 2008.

Roberta’s hobbies included gardening and raising flowers, and she also had a true love for auction sales, garage sales, and thrift stores.   She is remembered for her many shopping sprees for others, and she always felt there was a use somewhere for everything she bought.  Roberta was a regular attender of New Rockford Evangelical Free Church, where she attended bible studies and was a member of the Women’s group.   She loved her yearly family reunions, and her band, “Roberta and Friends”, meant the world to her.

She is survived by one daughter, Beverly K. Koepplin (Terry VanLithe), New Rockford; one son, Michael M. (Jackie) Williams, New Rockford; five grandchildren, Rayette, Eric, and David, Koepplin, Jr, and Brent and James Williams; 9 great-grandchildren; one brother, David Short, McHenry, ND; four sisters, Maxine Olson, Pelican Rapids, MN, Linda Somerville, Minnewaukan, ND, Judith (Glenn) Cudworth, Sheyenne, and Ruth Zidon, Glyndon, MN.

Roberta was preceded in death by her husband Jim, two infant children, her parents, seven brothers, and several in-laws.
