Bernice Wipperling
Bernice Wipperling, age 90, of Bismarck, ND, died Sunday, June 19, 2016, at Sanford Health of Bismarck. Edith Bernice Herringer was born on September 14, 1925, to Emil and Elizabeth (Wic) Herringer, at Rocky Run in Foster County. She was the middle child of seven children. Bernice graduated from New Rockford High School and earned her Teaching Certificate. She taught one year at Tiffany Country School, before meeting the love of her life; they met while roller skating at the Brown Memorial. Bernice was united in marriage to Wilfred (Bud) Wipperling on September 14, 1946, her 21st birthday, at her parents’ home in New Rockford. Together they farmed in Tiffany Township, and later purchased the Wipperling family farm in Columbia Township. After Bud and Bernice had four children, Bernice spent two years in San Haven for Tuberculosis treatment. When she returned home they had four more children. They operated the farm and milked cows until 1987. Bernice raised and trained miniature horses using carriages Bud handcrafted. In 2002, Bernice and Bud moved to Carrington, and later moved to Jamestown in 2011. Bernice moved to assisted living in Bismarck, following Bud’s death October 2, 2013. They were married for 67 years. Bernice loved farm life and miniature horses. Over the years, she was involved with and took leadership roles in clubs, organizations, and church. She was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in New Rockford, and later the Grace Lutheran Church when they moved to Carrington. She is survived by her 8 children: Wade (Sue), Jean (Mark) Dunn, Dennis (Kathy), Steve (Gloria), Cindy (Wayne Karger), Doria (Matthew) Burthold, Lisa, and Rodney (Audrey); her brother Emil Jack (Crystal) Herringer and several nieces and nephews. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband Bud, parents, two grandchildren Benjamin Hubbard and Amy Sparvzoff, and five of her siblings and their spouses.
