Lola Zink
Lola Townsend Zink, age 74, of Carrington, ND, was called home to our Lord & Savior on May 16, 2013. She died at her home under the care of Mercy Hospice and her family, after a courageous 13 year battle with cancer. Lola was born on June 17, 1938, in Juanita, ND, to Russell and Esther (Gieseke) Townsend. She graduated from Carrington, and then from Interstate Business College. She married her college sweetheart, Leo Zink on February 2, 1958. A few years and four small children later, Lola began giving music lessons on the family farm near Carrington. She soon rented a place in town. This business grew into Zink Music & Western Wear, where she sold western clothing, tack, music, instruments, and gave lessons. During the same time, Lola and Leo started a country and old time dance band, The Three Tunes, and have continued playing up until recently. As early as high school, Lola played organ in church and directed the church choir at Grace Lutheran Church. She has continued to provide music at the local nursing homes and Vets Club until recently. Playing music with others was her greatest love. Since 2000, Lola and Leo have wintered in Texas and continued playing music there. All through the years, Lola and Leo bred and showed registered paint and quarter horses, as well as miniature horses across the upper Midwest. Lola was also actively involved in Kiwanis, horse judging and giving various music lessons. In 2000, Lola began the long and arduous battle with cancer. It was the beginning of the fight of her life. Lola will be remembered and deeply missed by her husband of 55 years, Leo; four children, Terrance (Terri Jo) Zink, Minot, ND, Pamela (Kenneth) Roberts, Clayton, New Mexico, Karla (Mitch) Lura and Kevin Zink, both of Carrington; 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Dale (Gen) Townsend, and twins, Diane and Charles (LeeAnn) Townsend; and many nieces and nephews. She was welcomed into heaven by her parents.
