Bertha Morris
Bertha Morris, age 98, of Fargo, ND, was called to Heaven on January 16, 2009, at Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo, under the care of Hospice of Red River Valley.
Bertha Jergina Brekhus was born November 21, 1910, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Skjerveggen) Brekhus, on the homestead farm north of Kenmare, ND, which her father built. Bertha was raised and educated in the Norma, ND, area. She was a member of Evanger Lutheran Church, where she was baptized, confirmed, and later married. She taught Sunday School and was an active member of the ELCA. On October 27, 1934, Bertha was united in marriage to Clarence Morris. They lived on a farm in the Kenmare area. In 1949, they moved to a farm in the Sheyenne area, north of Bremen, ND, in Wells County. Bertha and Clarence also enjoyed 14 winters in Yuma, Arizona, prior to his death on May 27, 1987. Bertha moved to Fargo later that year. Bertha was a member of Eden Lutheran Church, where she also taught Sunday School and was an active member of the ELCA. Bertha enjoyed gardening, flowers and sewing. She also enjoyed music and playing piano and accordion, but most of all singing hymns. Bertha liked parties, especially coffee parties with family and friends. She enjoyed visiting so any time she could visit with people was a true party to her. Bertha will feel at home in Heaven, as her faith was her biggest attribute. She will always be remembered as a devoted wife and mother who took great pride in raising her six children. Those who shared her life include four daughters and two sons: Betty Jane (Bob) Shirley, Fargo, Viola Gross, Fargo, Deloris (Warren) Tarbell, Spokane, WA, Jerome (Karen) Morris, Fessenden, ND, Lavonne (Royce) Black, Fargo, Timothy Morris, Fargo; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two brothers Lloyd Brekhus, Grand Forks, ND, Hartman Brekhus, Douglas, AZ; numerous nieces and nephews, and many in-laws. She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence, her parents Henry & Anna Brekhus, four brothers, Ludvig, Adolph, Julius and Rosvel; three sisters, Bernice Munter, Rose Crager and Thelma Johnson; and son-in-law Edward Gross.
