Carl Beck

Dr. Carl Albert “Pete� Beck, age 73, retired optometrist passed away on May 14, 2009, at his residence at Virginia Beach, VA, surrounded by family and friends.

Dr. Carl Beck was born in Carrington, ND on October 10, 1935, the son of Henry and Esther (Retzlaf) Beck. He was raised and graduated from Carrington High School. Carl graduated from Concordia College and was a member of the Concordia College choir.

On October 1, 1960, Carl married Jeanette Gross at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carrington, ND. They owned and operated the Ben Franklin Store in Carrington for a time. Carl and Jeanette moved to CA where he worked as a computer programmer for seven years and then transferred to Virginia Beach, VA working as a computer programmer for one year. He attended the Illinois College of Optometry. After his graduation, he practiced optometry for 27 years in Virginia Beach and Suffolk, VA area before retiring.

Left to cherish Carl’s memory is his beloved wife, Jeanette; his three daughters, Shelly (Karl) Schnurr, Bristow, VA, Lynette (Don) Caylor, Carrington, ND, Allison (Ronnie) Kirkland, Honolulu, HI; three grandchildren, Casey and Laura Caylor, Kristin Schnurr; one sister, Donna (Maurice) Zink, Pingree, ND.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Esther; and a brother, Dr. Keith Beck.

Well done good and faithful servant…. enter thou into the joy of the Lord.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Carrington Cemetery Association.
