Eldon Clelland
Eldon Clelland, age 87, of New Rockford, ND, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2009, at the Carrington Hospital, Carrington, ND.
Eldon was born on December 15, 1921 at Grace City, ND to Robert Clelland and Mae (Black) Clelland. He grew up around the Grace City area and attended school in Tiffany Township before the family moved to New Rockford in 1939. He was drafted into the Army in December of 1942, he received a Purple Heart and an Honorable Discharge in 1945. Eldon married Betty Utecht on October 21, 1946 in New Rockford, ND, and they had four children. He worked for the Independent Lumber Yard in New Rockford, ND and for Harry Hall, on the farm, for many years. Betty Clelland died on March 6, 1986. Eldon enjoyed playing cards, ice fishing, hunting and going to the Rockford Café to have coffee with all his buddies. Eldon is survived by his son; Jake (Lynette) Clelland, New Rockford, ND, two daughters; Linda (Jack) Ziegler, Minot, ND, Sharon (Rod) Paluh, Lewiston, ID; seven grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; four sisters; Gloria Cavegn, Temple Hills, MD, Betty Anderson, New Rockford, Donna Schafer, Longmont, CO, Eleanor (Don) Schafer, New Rockford; and one brother, Pereley (Lola) Clelland, Pierre, SD. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; one son, David; his parents; one sister, Grace; and one brother, Delbert.
