Erland Arvid Berglund was born September 17, 1926, at the Aslakson farm in rural Sheyenne, ND. He was the son of Arvid and Florence (Smith) Berglund. Erland was raised on the family farm in Bush Township, and was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church, Sheyenne, ND. Erland attended Rocky Mountain county school in rural Sheyenne and New Rockford High School, New Rockford, ND.

On September 14, 1968, Erland was united in marriage to Aileen Carlson at Grace Lutheran Church, Sheyenne, ND. They were the parents of one son, Johnathan.

Erland was a farmer all his life. He received the Eddy County Soil Conservation Award in 1959, the North Dakota State University Outstanding Agriculturist Award, and received recognition for maintaining a Centennial Tree Claim.

He enjoyed flying lessons from Ole Aslakson. Flying remained his lifelong interest. Erland was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and served as a council member and at times was an usher with his son.

Erland is survived by his wife Aileen, Sheyenne, ND, one daughter-in-law; Karla Berglund and two grandchildren, Gretchen and Nicholas, all of New Rockford, ND; one sister; Leona Bouret, rural Sheyenne, ND, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his son, Johnathan and his parents.
