Gary Comer

Gary G. Comer, age 68, of rural St. Michael, ND, went to the Lord on Thursday, March 26, 2009, in his home, surrounded by his family.

Gary was born October 16, 1940, in Devils Lake, ND, one of ten children born to Ernest and Irene (Baldwin) Comer. From the age of five years, he was raised by Ray and Fern Doyle at rural Tokio, ND. At the age of fourteen, he started his career as a lifelong farmer by working on neighboring farms. In 1958, he enlisted in the United States Army. He did basic training at Fort Hood, TX, and then was stationed in Germany. After leaving the armed forces, he returned to North Dakota where he worked on various farms. In 1964, he was united in marriage to Ruth Short and they made their home in York, ND, and at Tokio. They later divorced. In 1977, he was united in marriage to Juliene “Judy� Eagleman at Minnewaukan, ND. They made their home together near St. Michael, ND, until her death on September 3, 2006.

Through the years he had various different professions but always came back to his farming. He had a love of horses and spent many hours riding and training horses.

He loved all of his grandchildren and spent many hours doing his “magic� and producing “nummies� for all the kids. They all enjoyed spending the night with their papa and hearing his stories.

Gary is survived by two sons, Wayne (Katrina) Comer, St. Michael, ND, Christopher (Jennifer) Eagleman, Blaine, MN; three daughters, Karen Joshua, Glen Ullin, ND, Rhonda Rieger, Mandan, ND, Cary (Jeff) McMahon, Niagara, ND; fourteen grandchildren, including Heather Joshua who was Gary’s caregiver for the past several months; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Eileen Haakenson, New Rockford, ND, Carol Winberg, Morrison, CO, Linda Simmons, Lansford, ND; two brothers, Jim Comer, Val Villa, WA, and Alvin Paulson, Jr., Devils Lake, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Irene Comer, his adoptive parents Ray and Fern Doyle, his wife Juliene, brothers Myron, Everett, Larry and Dwight Comer.
