Georgia Norton, age 89, of New Rockford, ND, died Tuesday, December 24, 2009, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford.

Georgia Belle Byrum was born September 4, 1920, on a farm south of New Rockford, the daughter of Hazel and Bertha (Zimmerman) Byrum.   She grew up there, and attended school in New Rockford.

On September 24, 1938, Georgia was united in marriage to Everett Norton at Grafton, ND.  They lived and farmed north east of New Rockford in Superior Township of Eddy County.  They retired from farming in 1976 and moved into New Rockford.  Georgia worked in the kitchen at New Rockford Public School for several years.  Everett died May 7, 1995.  Georgia lived at Westview Apartments in New Rockford until January of 2006, when she entered Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd.

Georgia had sat election boards for many years.  She enjoyed embroidery work and cooking, and spending time with her family was very important to her.

She is survived by five sons and two daughters:  David (Pat) of Mundelein, IL, Paul (Joeann) of Granite Falls, WA, Larry (Barb) of Edmonds, WA, Bob (Alice) of Carrington, ND, Don (Sharon) of New Rockford, Marlene Scott of Maddock, ND and Diana (Bill) Ziegler of New Rockford; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; a sister-in-law Maxine Byrum of New Rockford and a cousin Jack (Metta) McDowell of New Rockford.
