Harold Haas
Harold A. “Bud� Haas, age 91, of New Rockford, ND, died Sunday, March 29, 2009, at Medcenter One Hospital in Bismarck, ND.
Harold Alfred Haas, known to everyone as Bud Haas, was born November 3, 1917, at Parshall, ND, the son of Lutzi and Clara (Hagen) Haas. When Bud was young, the family moved to New Rockford, where he attended school and graduated from New Rockford High School. Bud entered the US Army in August of 1942 at Ft. Snelling, MN. He was sent with his service unit, Company A, 242nd Regiment, 42nd Infantry Division, to fight in Germany. Bud was captured shortly after arriving and spent four months in the Stalag 9B Bad Orb POW Camp. He was liberated in April 1945, and discharged December 1945. Following a year of medical rehab, Bud returned to New Rockford where he and his brother began operating the Blackstone Bar. In February of 1948, Bud was united in marriage to Mary Pat Mullen at New Rockford. She died at the age of 34 on August 19, 1957. Bud retired from the Blackstone in 1982. He began Dialysis in 1999, making 3 trips a week to Jamestown. He moved to Hi Acres Manor in Jamestown in 2006. Bud was a very active and involved community person. He was a member of Fist Lutheran Church, the American Legion and VFW, the Masonic Lodge & Shriners, the Eagles, and New Rockford Golf Club to name a few. Harold is survived by two daughters, Susan (Jerry) Sanderson, Memphis, Tennessee, Mary Ann Wigg, Brisbane, Australia; two granddaughters, Laura (Gary) Reinke, Amanda (Robby) Mitchell; five great granddaughters; one sister, Barbara “Bobbie� Hansen, Gardenville, NV; and one sister-in-law, Faye Haas, Las Vegas, NV. He was preceded in death by his parents, spouse, one brother Les, and one sister June.
