JoAnne Schuster

JoAnne Schuster, age 76, of New Rockford, ND, died Friday, October 30, 2009, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford.

JoAnne Bauch was born October 5, 1933 at Garrison, ND, the daughter of Albert A. and Irene C. (Kurtz) Bauch.  JoAnne sang church solos at the age of 3 in the Garrison Congregational Church, and at the age of 5, won a state-wide talent contest to appear on the nationally broadcast Major Bowes Amateur Hour where she placed second. She began school at Garrison, and in 1941, the family moved to the Tacoma, WA area.  On Saturday mornings, JoAnne was a regular feature on a local radio program, sang at both Army camps and hospitals as a member of the USO, preformed in theatrical productions and continued to win local, state and some national talent contests.  She graduated from high school at Tacoma and then attended Los Angeles University at Dominguez Hills, CA, and received a two-year degree in English and Journalism. She was elected to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges 1972/1973.  The illness of her mother necessitated returning to North Dakota in 1975. While caring for her mother, JoAnne was also employed at Rolfson Insurance, New Rockford.

JoAnne was united in marriage to Fred Schuster on December 30, 1977 at New Rockford.  They have lived in New Rockford and at rural Sheyenne, ND.  Jo Anne worked at Sioux Manufacturing at Ft. Totten, ND, first on the manufacturing line, and later as an Administrative Assistant for 16 years.    Her health caused her to enter Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford, later moving to the Heritage House.  In December of 2008, she returned to LHGS.

She enjoyed collecting bells, liked having cats and dogs around, and also stayed in touch with people by email and by making and sending her computer-made cards.

JoAnne is survived by her husband Fred, of rural Sheyenne, ND; and one half-brother, Adolph (Audrey)  Bauch of Troutdale, Oregon; two nieces, Julie and Robin; a nephew, Alan Bauch; two brothers-in-law, Paul (Leona) Schuster and Milo (Kathy) Schuster, both of New Rockford; two sisters-in-law, Alyce (Craig) Ellingson, Grace City, ND, Mary Ann Miller, Crookston, MN, and many nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts and uncles residing in New Rockford, Garrison, Bismarck, Montana and South Dakota.

She was preceded in death by her parents and maternal and paternal grandparents.
