Lloyd Miller
Lloyd C. Miller, age 83, of Carrington, ND, died Tuesday, September 15, 2009, at Bethany Homes, Fargo, ND.
Lloyd was born January 26, 1926, at Heaton, ND, the son of Fred and Susie (Wacker) Miller. He attended grade and high school in Heaton and was drafted into the US Army in March 1945. He was stationed overseas in Okinawa. In November, 1945, he was honorably discharged from Fort Lewis, WA, as Sergeant Tech 4. Lloyd married Mavis Radke at Heaton Congregational Church on June 30, 1948. They farmed at the family farm at Heaton until 1987. After retiring from farming, they moved to Carrington. In January 2009, Lloyd entered Golden Acres in Carrington and in June 2008, moved to Bethany Homes in Fargo. He was a director and stockholder at Farmers State Bank of Carrington from 1980 to 1993. He was a member of Speedwell Township board of Wells Co., Heaton and Fessenden school boards, Sykeston American Legion for 63 years, and the Carrington VFW. Lloyd was a member and trustee of Heaton Congregational Church and member of Federated Church in Carrington. Lloyd enjoyed card playing, bowling, golfing, hunting, and fishing. He played amateur baseball and basketball. He and Oscar Dell were the winners of the ND State American Legion doubles bowling tournament in 1976. He was the ND State Seniors bowling tournament winner in 1983 and advanced to the National tournament in Niagara Falls, NY, where he placed 18th. Lloyd is survived by his wife, Mavis; three sons, Nathan (Michelle), Phoenix, AZ, Jerome (Mary), Fargo, ND, Bradley (Sherri), Cando, ND; seven grandchildren, Stacey (Dave) Poffenberger, Michael, Matthew, Jesse, Samantha, Kasandra, Stephanie; one great-grandchild, Chloe Poffenberger; and three sisters, Clara Mortimore, Eugene, OR, Viola Young, Auburn, WA, Leona Arestad, Tucson, AZ; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant grandson, Christopher; and one brother, Jonathan.
