Mary M. “Babe� Longie, age 65, of New Rockford, ND, and formerly of Ft. Totten, ND, died Thursday, September 17, 2009 at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford.

Mary Margaret Longie, known as “Babe�, was born October 14, 1943, at Devils Lake, the daughter of Frank and Sylvia (Strait) Cavanaugh. She grew up at Ft. Totten, attended and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Devils Lake.

On January 8, 1963, Mary was united in marriage to Timothy Longie, Sr. at Crookston, MN. Over the years, Mary had worked at Ft. Totten Day Care Center, at Sioux Manufacturing, and for 15 years at BIA as an Accounting Technician. She retired due to her health in 1991. She entered Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd at New Rockford in February of 1996.

Babe is survived by her daughter, Terese “Terri� (Dallas) Welch, Ft. Totten; three sons, Timothy, Jr. (Darlys), Robert, and Thomas, all of Ft. Totten; 16 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; her sister Myrna “Torchy� (Larry) Greene of St. Michael; and her aunt, Dorothy Amaro of Stafford, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tim Longie, Sr; her parents Frank & Sylvia Cavanaugh; three brothers, Dominic Strait, Gene Cavanaugh & William Cavanaugh; four uncles, J.B., Max, Art, & Dan Cavanaugh; and two aunts, Lily Hinderscheit and Irene Smith.
