Michael Duchscherer

Michael Duchscherer, the son of Michael and Elizabeth (Hepfner) Duchscherer, was born May 24, 1923, at their farmstead in Bluemenfeld, North Dakota. Surrounded by his family, he died at the age of 85 years on February 5, 2009 at St. Alexis Medical Center in Bismarck, North Dakota.

He was united in marriage to Phyllis Bachmeier in Sykeston, North Dakota on October 29, 1945. They farmed near Bowden until 1955 when they moved to New Rockford. Michael was a carpenter by trade and worked on jobs such as the GTA Elevator, Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, Central High School, the Nicoma Missile Silos and Lake Region State College. He also performed remodeling projects on the Nerland Oil Stations in New Rockford and Jamestown.

Mike was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church. He was a marvelous gardener and took pride in showing off his produce. He enjoyed spending time exchanging stories with friends and family. He especially appreciated frequent visits with Phyllis, Helen, and Frank.

He is survived by his four children, Leonard (Peggy) Duchscherer of New Rockford; Shirley Aanderud of Jamestown; Linda Murray of Laurel, MT; Carol (Jerome) Pierce of New Rockford; twelve grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren; one sister, Marcella Wolf of Minot; three sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

Michael was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Phyllis; infant daughter, Mary Ellen; his parents; one sister Magdalen; five brothers, Jack, Joe, Bruno, Pete, and Placy.
