Paul Kreie

Paul Francis Kreie, age 83, of New Rockford, ND, passed away on February 2, 2009, at Medcenter One in Bismarck, ND.

Paul was born October 17, 1925, in Brantford, ND, the son of Walter and Edith (Hazlett) Kreie. He was raised and attended school in Brantford. At the age of 17, Paul enlisted in the United States Navy. During World War II he was stationed in the Pacific and served on the USS Princeton, which was sunk by the Japanese. Paul was honorably discharged in 1946.

Paul married Shirley Blomquist on May 28, 1955 in Moorhead, MN. They made their home in New Rockford. Paul worked on the Burlington Northern Railroad for 39 years before retiring in 1986. Shirley died in April 2000.

He had enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing, playing cards and reading before having a stroke about 20 years ago. Due to his quiet and kind yet strong manner, the stroke did not keep him from living his life in the way that he wanted. Paul always considered New Rockford as his home, even when living away from town during the last couple of years.

He was a member of New Rockford Eagles and American Legion.

Paul is survived by two children; Brian (Jana) Kreie, Fargo, ND, and Paulette (Bruce) Whitmore, Bismarck, ND; two grand-daughters, Jenessa and Kira Whitmore, Bismarck, ND, two brothers; Walter (Leah) Kreie, Minot, ND and Byron Kreie, Jamestown, ND.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, his parents, two brothers and two sisters who died early in their childhood, and two older sisters, Nettie Leinhart and Mavis Ridge.
