Ray Hoffman
Ray Aron Hoffman, age 79, of Grace City, ND, died peacefully with his family present on June 3, 2009, at Carrington Health Center, Carrington, ND after battling cancer.
Ray Hoffman was born June 14, 1929, on the family farm at Grace City, ND, the son of Samuel and Bertha (Martin) Hoffman. He attended Haven Township #3 school at rural Grace City. Ray married Betty Ann Bergstad on June 16, 1951, at McHenry Lutheran Church, McHenry, ND. Ray and Betty operated a dairy and raised small grains on the family farm. They thoroughly enjoyed living on the farm, where they raised three children. Ray’s love and passion was devoted to the land. He enjoyed hunting, trapping, and fishing. His most notable passion was planting trees on the farm. In honor of his effort, he received a soil conservation award. Throughout their lives, Betty and Ray enjoyed dancing. Many years were spent square dancing in the community. They eventually joined the Jamestown Eagles and continued dancing into their later years. Ray will be remembered and deeply missed by his loving wife, Betty of 57 years; two daughters, Eileen (David) Sande, Boise, ID, and Jean (Leo) Gauderman, Grace City, ND; one son, Gary (Eileen) Hoffman, Carrington, ND; four sisters, Zola Vlach, Glenfield, ND, Gladys Black, Grove, OK, Doris (Darrel) Williams, Williston, ND, Ora (Cyril) Peterson, Canyon Lake, CA; three brothers, Marvin Hoffman, Carrington, ND, Duane (Alvena) Hoffman, McHenry, ND, Rodney (Cheryl) Hoffman, Hillsboro, ND; ten grandchildren, Marissa Sande, Kayla Isaac, Adam Sande, Brooke Hoffman, Heather Hoffman, Heidi Hoffman, Anthony Hoffman, Kyle Gauderman, Thomas Gauderman, Joy Gauderman; and two great-grandchildren, JossLynn Brown and Rylee Hilmer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Bertha; one sister, Cora Galt; a special cousin, George Rotz; three brothers-in-law, Gerald Black, Rollin Galt, and Joe Vlach; and sister-in-law, Lucy Hoffman.
