Theresa Hazel Hegland, 89, of New Rockford, North Dakota, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford.

Theresa Hazel Logan was born on October 31, 1919 in Fargo, North Dakota to Thor and Hilda (Lovesteen) Logan. She graduated from the 8th grade at Rock Township School near the Logan Ranch in Benson County.

Theresa met Miller Hegland at local Luther League events, and they were married on October 17, 1946 at the Thor and Hilda Logan Ranch north of Sheyenne, North Dakota. Theresa and Miller farmed in rural New Rockford, where they raised their family; they retired in 1977 and moved in to New Rockford.

Theresa was active in Garden Club, Sons of Norway, and Ladies Aid. She also volunteered in various community activities in the region. Theresa and Miller enjoyed traveling across the United States to visit their children and relatives. They also spent many memorable winters in Arizona, and took two trips to Norway to meet extended family members. Miller Hegland died on December 23, 2003.

Theresa is survived by her five children, Gary of Fargo, ND, Dennis of New Rockford, ND, Roberta Steckler of Denver, Colorado, Elizabeth Gjellstad of Minot, ND and Marilyn Blilie of Roanoke, Texas, fifteen grandchildren, Dawnyell Senger, Kristyn Vetsch, Briget Steckler, Melissa Gjellstad, Jennifer Blilie, Jacquelyn Blilie, Angela Trybe, Susan Hegland, Lyon Hegland, Logan Hegland, Brady Steckler, Bryce Steckler, Clint Gjellstad, Jeremy Blilie, and Jason Blilie; and ten great-grandchildren.

Theresa was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings, Marie, Thorman, Esther, and Marvin.
