Darlene Hewitt

Darlene Hewitt, 81, of Carrington, ND, died Friday, March 16, 2018, at CHI St. Alexius Hospital, Carrington.

Darlene Kay Hanson was born on April 7, 1936, in Carrington to Martin and Evelyn (Pierce) Hanson.  She was raised and received her education in Carrington.  On June 22, 1955, she married the love of her life, James Hewitt, in Fessenden, ND.  They lived in Sykeston for 1 year before moving to their permanent home in Carrington, where they raised their 6 children.

Darlene had a heart that was sweet and soft, but could be tough as nails too, as raising 6 children (born in a 10 year span) is one of the most challenging jobs in the world; she was a mom, wife, referee, friend, housekeeper, cook, and confidant.  She loved her family more than life itself.  She also enjoyed her coffee time with friends where special memories were created while solving world problems over a cup of coffee. She was an avid Bison, Minnesota Vikings and Twins, as well as CHS sports fan.  Darlene was neat as a pin and meticulous in details down to her favorite shades of lipstick

In 1977 Darlene went to work at Golden Acres where she worked for several years. At Golden Acres she worked with several of the nurses that, in recent years, attended to her care. She was very thankful to have such kind and compassionate care from all her nurses.  Darlene’s fighting spirit helped her battle back from several serious illnesses in recent years that her Doctors and nurses were sure she would not overcome.  She always said... never count me out.  Darlene will be dancing in heaven, on legs free from pain, once again with her loving husband, Jim, to their song Cab Driver.

Darlene is survived by 2 sons, Scott (Deb), Sykeston, ND, Paul (Jackie), Steele, ND, 3 daughters, Amy (Greg) Stoike, Poway, CA, Wendy (Jim) Andries, Allen TX, Beth (Troy) Trottier, Carrington, ND; 3 sisters-in-law, Marlys Hanson, Fargo, ND, Sharon Hewitt, Carrington, ND, and Joelle Hewitt, Apache Junction, AZ; 1 brother-in-law, Rusty (Kathy) Hewitt, Fargo, ND, Darlene is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; one daughter Lorrie; her parents, one daughter-in-law Brenda Hewitt, her grandson, Alex Stolz; brother Marlin ”Bud” Hanson and sister Diane (Alvin) Soma.

God cannot be everywhere, therefore he made our Mother.
