After retirement, Andy and his wife, June, were snowbirds. They traveled the Lower 48 visiting family and friends on their way to and from a home in Arizona. In addition, they enjoyed their trips to Seward and Homer where they spent much of their time fishing on the "Carol J".

Andy was husband to June Johnson for 33 years until her passing in 2013. He is survived by his step-daughters Teresa M. Alyea of Anchorage, AK and Melinda Norwood Lathrop of Bethel, AK. He is also survived by his grandson Alec Marshall Johnson Sr. and his great-grandchild Alec Marshall Johnson Jr. of Tampa, Florida; his nephew Bob (Vicki) Johnson and niece Winnie (Bill) Wilder of Kentucky; his cousin Rebecca "Reba" Hoover of Kentucky and Florida; his sister-in-law Marlene (Robert) Scott and brother-in-law Darryl (Carol) Galt of North Dakota; along with other in-laws and friends.
